A machine of your own

switched.cloud is free VPS hosting from the people behind plugged.host. You get root over SSH and install whatever you like: a website, a bot, a database, a game server you set up yourself.

Two kinds of VPS

Both give you root and the same network. Pick the one that fits what you run.

Container

You get all of the CPU, memory and disk you pick. It starts in seconds, and Docker works inside it. The right choice for most things.

Virtual machine

Its own kernel and full isolation, for software that needs them. It costs twice what it gets from your plan: a 2 GB virtual machine uses 4 GB. Comes with switched.cloud Plus, 25 Cloud Tokens once, which also lets you choose the location.

Reachable from day one

Every VPS comes with these, nothing to set up.

SSH

Log in as root with your password or SSH key. The panel shows the exact command to copy.

Five ports

Five TCP and UDP ports on a shared IPv4 address. Inside the VPS they have the same number, so your app listens on the port people connect to.

Its own IPv6 address

Reachable directly on every port, for anything that speaks IPv6.

Debian or Alpine

Debian 13 for both kinds, Alpine for containers. Reinstall any time from the panel.

One plan for both

switched.cloud uses the same noprofit.space account and the same plan as plugged.host. Your VPSes and your game servers share it, so spend it where you need it.

Allocations depend on available capacity and can change, as set out in the Terms. They are a ceiling, not a performance guarantee.

Keep it running

Your account has one clock, its Runtime, that keeps your VPSes running. Topping it up is quick and free.

The first three days are on us

Every account starts with three days of Runtime.

One Cloud Token, one more day

Each VPS on your account uses an hour of Runtime for every hour it is there, running or shut down. A Cloud Token adds a day, two with switched.cloud Plus, and you earn one for each link you complete on the Cloud Tokens page. Add as much as you like.

Ran out?

When your Runtime runs out, your VPSes stop. Add time within three days and they start again as you left them; after that they are deleted.

Fair use

Everyone shares the same hosts and the same IPv4 addresses, so a few things are off-limits. VPSes that do them are suspended.

  • No crypto mining

Mining software and connections to mining pools are blocked and suspend the VPS.

  • No attacks

No DDoS, floods, port scanning or password guessing against anyone. Network limits stop floods before they leave.

  • No spam

    Outgoing mail ports are closed.

  • Nothing illegal

The Acceptable Use Policy has the full list.

Straight answers

How do I connect?

Open your VPS in the panel and copy the SSH command, for example ssh root@host -p 20000. Log in with the root password you chose, or with your SSH key if you added one.

Which ports can I use?

The five listed on your VPS page, over TCP and UDP. Make your app listen on that same number inside the VPS and people reach it at the host's address and that port. Over IPv6 every port works.

Does Docker work?

Yes, in containers and in virtual machines.

I lost my password or broke SSH.

Reset the root password from the panel, or reinstall the system. Reinstalling erases the VPS but keeps its ports and addresses.

What happens when my Runtime runs out?

Your VPSes stop. Add Runtime within three days and they start again with everything on them; after that they are deleted for good. Keep your own copy of anything you would hate to lose.

Are my files backed up?

No. switched.cloud doesn't back up VPSes: no backups, no snapshots, no copies. If a host fails, what is on it can be lost, and VPSes are deleted with everything on them three days after your Runtime runs out. Keep your own copies of anything you need. If your data is what you care about most, plugged.host is the better choice: it keeps a copy of every game server on separate backup machines, lets you download it, and brings servers back from it on its own when a machine fails.

What pays for it?

Ads in the panel and the Linkvertise links behind Cloud Tokens. Starting a VPS shows a short page of ads while it boots. When a location is nearly full, a start waits in line until there is room, ten minutes at most; switched.cloud Plus goes first.

Who runs this, and where do I get help?

switched.cloud (formerly plugged.cloud) is run by noprofit.space, like plugged.host, and shares its Discord server. Keep passwords and personal data out of public channels. Sign-in, the Terms and the Privacy Policy are noprofit.space's.

Build on your own machine.

Sign in with your noprofit.space account, pick a size and a system, and your VPS is ready in about a minute.
